Heat mat dilemma

Just a quick question really...I have set up my vivarium ready for 2 new geckos and as I'm new to this, I seem to have conflicting information.

I bought a heatmat (microclimate 100) 10"X12" for my 24" wooden viv and the packaging states to use mat directly under substrate but UNDER the viv on polystyrene and the heat will pass through the wooden base enough to heat the substrate but on testing, the viv only heats to 81 degrees WITH day setting (15w pygmy bulb as suggested).

I fear it will only heat the substrate if inside the viv but this could be a fire hazard? What do you suggest as the geckos' safety and comfort comes first.

Thanks

Re: Heat mat dilemma

Hi

I suggest you put the heat mat inside the viv under the substrate this should enable you to get the correct temperatures take a look at the set up page on the web site hope this helps.

many thanks
